Jamaica is a gem in the Caribbean,
which is an archipelago of islands between southeastern United States and
northern South America. The island is in the Northern and Western Hemispheres,
located at latitude 17 degrees North (approximately), and between longitude 77
and 79 degrees West.
Jamaica itself is located at 18 15 N, 77 30 W. It has an area of 11,424 square kilometers, and is 243 kilometers long. It is surrounded by the Caribbean sea. Jamaica forms a part of the Greater Antilles, which also include Cuba, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti). These are the largest islands in the archipelago, found in the north west Caribbean.
Our closest neighbours are: Cuba which is 90 miles (140 km) to the north, and Haiti which is 118 miles (190 km) to the east.
